A billet crank is the strongest, because unlike the forging which has uneven grain structure and stress (a result of the forging process), the billet has a uniform and non - stress grain structure.
A custom forged crank has all of the features of a billet but the material is made by taking a piece of steel and forcing it into roughly the correct shape for a crankshaft. These are durable high quality cranks, not to the extent of a billet, but easier on the check book.
