SCAT Crankshafts Supports the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow

SCAT Crankshafts is proud to continue its support of the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow program. Founded in 2008, Hot Rodders of Tomorrow hosts national competitions where high school students are tasked with tearing down and rebuilding an entire vehicle’s engine in the shortest time possible. A non-profit organization, Hot Rodders of Tomorrow is sponsored by many of the biggest brands in the performance aftermarket industry.

In addition to the competition itself, students are taught about teamwork and learn technical skills that will give them a head start to pursue careers in the automotive industry. 

The winners of the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow competition are awarded scholarship money to help offset the cost of their continued education.

Ford Muscle shared Ultra Street racer Darrel Merryman’s 1985 Ford Mustang. Merryman reached out to Dave Guy at DGR Performance in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, to guide him with finishing this build. Then, Ronnie Reynolds at Boosted Fabrication & Performance handled the most recent round of modifications.

This 1985 Ford Mustang uses a cast-wheel Precision Turbo 76mm Ultra Street turbocharger in the passenger-side of the nose that feeds the RGR Engines 302ci four-valve modular engine. To build the foundation of the engine, a Ford Racing Boss block, SCAT forged crankshaft, Oliver connecting rods and custom JE pistons were used.

Additionally, a quartet of custom Comp Cams turbo camshafts sit on Cobra C heads, which have been CNC-ported, had new valves and fire rings installed, and been supplemented with GT500 camshaft followers and lash adjusters to maximize durability. The engine wears a stock lower Cobra intake manifold and sheet metal fabricated upper intake.

Twenty-one year old builder, race and automotive enthusiast Cole Reynolds walks us through is mid engine LS swap build. Cole has always been tinkering on cars – even from a young age watching his dad and grandfather race.

After saving his pennies ($750 worth!) to buy his 1974 Chevy Luv Truck at 13 years old, Cole began rebuilding his vehicle into a center-steer, mid engine LS swap ride.

Cole loves the automotive community where builders, racers and enthusiasts from ages 1 to 100 learn from and support one another.
